If you use the trails of San Francisco for mountain biking, it is important that you help to do trailwork. It is also important for us to volunteer our time to make positive contributions toward ensuring that mountain biking in the city improves the recreational experience for all users.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to create a new multi-use Mt. Sutro
trail system in San Francisco SEE BELOW for 2007 schedule

++++++++++++++

Volunteers, working in cooperation with UCSF, have been rediscovering and repairing historic trails built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. The newly discovered multi-use trails follow the contour of the mountain within Mt. Sutro's eucalyptus forest in the UCSF Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve. During the last six months of 2006, volunteers contributed well over 600 hours of labor towards habitat restoration and trail construction.

Join 'Nature in the City', The Trail Center, Yerba Buena Chapter of CNPS, and other community volunteers for several trail building events.

Some of the native plants found on Mt. Sutro along this trail system are rare in the city including fairy bells, (Prosartes hookeri syn. Disporum hookeri), and a colony of pipevine (Aristolochia californica), never before seen on Mt. Sutro.

Here are the dates of the upcoming 2007 work days. Each workday is from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.:

Sep 1 - Mystery Trail restoration
Oct 6 - WPA trailwork
Nov 3 - Grooming of WPA trail
