VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to improve the multi-use trail system in McLaren Park in San Francisco
Saturday, Oct 31, 2009 - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
This is a special opportunity for SF mountain bikers to work directly with SFRPD on trail improvements in McLaren Park. The project scope will be to continue working on the trails from the August 2009, trail work event, cleaning up the tread and bringing everything up to sustainable standards. This is the perfect time of year to make trail improvements as the winter rains are close behind and will be highly beneficial to our work. Meet at picnic grounds at corner of PERSIA ST & SUNNYDALE AVE. MAP Wear long pants and layer clothing suitable for the job and weather.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to create a multi-use Mt. Sutro
trail system in San Francisco SEE BELOW for 2009 scheduleVolunteers, working in cooperation with UCSF, have been rediscovering and repairing historic trails built by the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. The newly discovered multi-use trails follow the contour of the mountain within Mt. Sutro's eucalyptus forest in the UCSF Mt. Sutro Open Space Reserve. During 2008, volunteers contributed hundreds of hours of labor towards habitat restoration and trail construction.
Join 'Nature in the City', The Trail Center, OneBrick, and other community volunteers for several trail building events.
Some of the native plants found on Mt. Sutro along this trail system are rare in the city including fairy bells, (Prosartes hookeri syn. Disporum hookeri), and a colony of pipevine (Aristolochia californica), never before seen on Mt. Sutro.
