Trail Stewardship for Golden Gate National Park System

aka "Trails Forever"

A trail stewardship program in the Golden Gate National Park system has been created. "Trails Forever" is an initiative launched by the Golden Gate National Parks conservancy in 2003, the official nonprofit partner of the Golden Gate National Parks. The Trails Forever official website.

The Parks Conservancy says that this Trails Forever program will:

• Rejuvenate and improve miles of existing trails.
• Provide access to areas of great natural beauty and historical significance.
• Complete new trail routes.
• Serve a broad array of user groups (including mountain biking we hope).
• Improve trail features, such as trailhead maps and signage.
• Restore nearby habitats and historic sites.
• Educate visitors about park resources.
• Create a trail network, providing for the first time an uniterrupted trail experience that spans the park from end-to-end.
• Create a first-class trail system on the GGNRA land and in Golden Gate National Parks.

Note that the Parks Conservancy is the private fundraising arm of the GGNRA.

Mountain bikers MUST GET INVOLVED in this stewardship program! The way that the new trails will be built and maintained depends on the people who are doing the volunteer work. If mountain bikers are involved, the trails will include the interests and influences of mountain bikers. If we don't get involved, we will get nothing. It's that simple.
